Steps to Becoming a Godly Man

Duties and Responsibility to the Family
Husband and wives
In the beginning(1st husband and wife)
Genesis 2:21-25
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
23 And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.”
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Genesis 3:16-17
16 To the woman He said:
“I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.”
17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’:
“ Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life.
Proverbs 18:22
He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.
Instructions on how to care for a Wife
1 Peter 3:7
Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.
Colossians 3:19
Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.
1 Timothy 3:2 (For Bishops)
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;
1 Timothy 3:12 (For Deacons)
Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
*Side
note* Ephesians 4 tells us how we should treat everyone
Ephesians 5:25 - 33
25 Husbands, love your
wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26
that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the
word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having
spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without
blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies;
he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh,
but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we
are members of His body,[d] of His flesh and of His bones. 31 “For this
reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
and the two shall become one flesh.”[e] 32 This is a great mystery, but I
speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let each one of you
in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she
respects her husband.
1
Corinthians 7:2-4
2 Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. 3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.
Divorce (Will continue here at the next meeting) Jan 4th, 2010
Mark 10:3-13
3"What did Moses command you?" he replied. 4They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away." 5"It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. 6"But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'[a] 7'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[b] 8and the two will become one flesh.'[c] So they are no longer two, but one. 9Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." 10When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."
1 Corinthians 7:12-14
12To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. 13And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. 14For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy
Fathers
Ephesians 6:2 -3
2"Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."[a] 4Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Colossians 3:20-22
20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
21Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
Discipline
Hebrews 12:8-10
Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness.
Revelations 3:19
19Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.

Steps to Becoming a Godly Man
1.
Hear & Believe God’s
Word.
Romans 10:14
How then shall they
call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in
him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a
preacher?
Romans 10:17
17So
then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:13-25 Proverbs 28:9
Matthew 13:14 Proverbs 20:12 Matthew
13:13
2.
Make a decision.
1 kings
18:21
And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two
opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow
him. And the people answered him not a word.
Mark
10:20-22
And
he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my
youth. Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and
said unto him, One
thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the
poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross,
and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he
had great possessions.
3.
Repent, Confess &
Believe.
Romans 10:9-13
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the
mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever
believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between
the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call
upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
4.
Obey God's word with actions & heart. ( the heart is mentioned over 800
times in the bible)
Luke
6:46
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord,
and do not the things which I say?
Obey God
– Genesis 26:1-6
The heart -
2 Timothy 2:22 Flee
also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with
them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Matthew
5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a
woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her
already in his heart.
Matthew 12:35 Matthew
5:8 Matthew 5:28 Matthew 6:21 Luke
6:45
5.
Study and Understand God's word. (a great on-line bible resource is
http://www.biblegateway.com/
It also has audio bible capability)
Many scriptures are
spoken out of context. We must study for ourselves to truly know,
understand, and obey God’s word. for example
– Hosea 4:6 My
people perish for lack of knowledge:
Many people stop
there without reading the rest of the verse. The complete verse reads:
Hosea 4:6 My people perish for lack of knowledge: because thou hast
rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to
me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy
children
It is important for
each of us to know God’s word for ourselves. Praying and asking God to
reveal His truth to us as before we read his word will help us to understand
it and see how to apply it to our lives. Reading a few
verses above and below a specific verse will help the reader get the full
context of the passage.
James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God,
that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given
him..
