This is a shop in San Telmo. This is one of the
original neighborhoods and is marked with old, but very beautiful
buildings. On weekends, the area is alive with hand-craft fairs
and with tango shows.

In sharp contrast to the older, more historic
buildings as shown in the picture to the left, this photo shows one of
the many modern shopping centers of Buenos Aires.

| This is a very famous street in the Boca
neighborhood that was begun by workers in the shipping
factories. They were allowed to take home left over materials
to build their houses--most being made of wood or sheet metal.
They are painted in many colors as one color paint was used until it
was all gone and then another color was begun. |

Here is an example of a housing complex in the San Telmo
neighborhood. Many of the Buenos Aires population live in these
multi-family dwellings and so it is common to see washing hung out to
dry from balconies or even hung on the windows. |

This last picture shows a completely different
neighborhood which is only about 15 minutes away from San Telmo.
Here there are many high-rise apartments where a family might own a
complete floor.
