How to set up Microsoft Outlook Express to check your email

Please note that your setting may vary slightly depending on your version of Microsoft Outlook Express

  • Tools
  • Accounts
  • Mail Tab
  • Display Name = (put whatever you want here)
  • Incoming (POP3) Mail Server = mail.domain.com for example mail.townbeacon.com
  • Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server = mail.domain.com for example mail.townbeacon.com
  • Account Name = username@domain.com for example mickeymouse@townbeacon.com Notice that the default entry does not include "@domain.com" part. It is required.
  • Password = put your account password here
  • Finish


  • Then

  • Tools
  • Accounts
  • Mail Tab
  • Select the email account you just created
  • Properties
  • Servers Tab
  • Check "My Server Requires Authentication"
  • Click Settings
  • Click "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
  • OK
  • Apply

    You may want to create a new "folder" and set up a "rule" so that mail that contains !!!SPAM!!! in the subject line is moved to the new folder you created.
