Llerena is located in southeast Extremadura near the boarder with Córdoba.   Orginally founded by Muslims the city was disputed back and forth between Christian and Arab forces until 1243 when it was captured by Pelay Pérez Correa and the Knights of the Order of Santiago. The town noted for its olive crop and olive oil production.

Badajoz Baptist church has a mission church meeting in the home of a church member who moved from Badajoz to Llerena around ten years ago.
