History and Illiteracy

Public education has made great strides since the Spanish civil war.  Unfortunately as a result of the civil war and of the general economic recession of the region there are still 300,388 adults in Extremadura who never completed eight years of primary education.  59,886 adults are also listed as illiterate.  Fortunately for the younger generations today, educational opportunities in Extremadura have improved dramatically.
