The University of Extremadura
The
university is split between two major cities (Cáceres and Badajoz). Since
we live in Badajoz we will focus on the Badajoz location. As well, all stats
given were exclusively for Badajoz.
The university is a relatively large campus with 12,000 + students. The campus
is conveniently located between Portugal and Spain and right next to the largest
hospital. Students from several countries study at this university and
many of the future doctors and nurses can be found here.
Like many campuses, there is much darkness and very little light. In
fact, there are less than 10 known believers in the way we define
believers. However, many students would consider themselves to be
Catholic, although very few are practicing Catholics. Many of the students
attending the University of Extremadura are from the city of Badajoz as well as
the surrounding cities. Unlike universities students in the States, after
finishing their university degree, the students here in Extremadura often return
back to their hometowns to work. Thus, there is much potential for
extended future ministry among these students.
Prayer Requests
(1)In
the campus of over 12,000 students there are less than 10 known believers.
A small Bible study group has been started, but there is much work to be done.
Please pray that God would draw more university students, especially Spaniards,
into the Bible study and that we would see several new Christians born over the
next several months.
(2)Of the university contacts currently available, there are two new
Christians. However, neither one of these students have yet been baptized.
They do desire to be baptized but various circumstances have prevented the
baptism up to this point. Please pray that they would be baptized very soon and that their faith would
continually grow stronger with each day and that they would be
reproducing disciples.
(3)Our desire is to see a church planting movement take place throughout
Extremadura by means of the students (for example, students taking the Gospel to
their cities and hometowns). Please pray that we would see reproducing
disciples and leaders developed over the next year that would have a vision to
reach Extremadura for Christ and that the Lord of the Harvest would continue to
"break up the unplowed ground" of this land so that people would know
it was time to seek the Lord and seek Him. (Hosea 10:12). |
