The Missionary Training
Institute
[back]

We currently have 20 Training
Institutes throughout the country. Our goal is to train
Guatemalan Baptists in missions, however, many of them lack
training in very basic areas of the Christian life. The purpose
of the Institute is to teach practical principles that can be
lived out in missions. The courses of study range from basic
Bible doctrine, to preparing a sermon, to family life and to
church planting with a team. Most of our people involved in the
Institute have full time jobs and full time ministries, therefore
they take classes one night a week and will complete the Institute
in 2 years. They are so hungry to grow in their relationship with
the Lord and learn how they best can spread His word in their own
country and to the world!
National Missions:
[back]

Our leadership made exploratory
trips to different under-evangelized areas in Guatemala. After
sharing reports 4 ‘Target Areas’ were named:
Antigua/Jocotenango, Esquipulas, Chiantla/Huehuetenango, and
Salama.

International Missions:

 Nearly 1.7 billion people have
little or no access to the gospel.
Many of these people live in the
10/40 window which includes North Africa and the Middle East, and
because of their physical features and culture there is a natural
affinity between Latin Americans and Arab peoples.
Also, Latin Americans not only adapt better as
frontier missionaries but require less financial support.
God is
doing a supernatural work all throughout Latin America calling
them to
work all over the world.
Several of
our Guatemalan Baptists have realized this call for themselves and
are now making plans to go and live in different countries to
share the gospel.

Marita
“Sheny” Orozco is following the call of God and is making plans to
work in Oaxaca, Mexico. She has worked in ‘home’ missions earlier
and is now training to work cross-culturally. More updates will
follow on her progress.
We also
have a Guatemalan couple whom we will call ‘Abraham and Sara’
planning to leave in August of 2003 to live and minister in North
Africa. They have three children and are excited about going and
sharing Jesus with people there. See our Prayer Link on how you
can prayer for their specific needs.
We
are in the process of setting up a prayer/information network in
our churches. Many churches are feeling the burden to pray for
missions and are organizing prayer groups specifically to pray for un-reached areas in Guatemala, missionaries and un-reached people
groups (, etc).
[back]
AMIGUA has
held special events throughout the year including a National
Missions Congress in March, Children’s Missions Conferences, Teas
for ladies to pray for missions, etc. Many other
events
like these are planned for the coming year to help Guatemalan
Baptists become more involved in missions.
Our
Administrator, Brenda Castro is also turning the newly
finished AMIGUA office into a Missions Resource Center (remove
"for pastors, churches, kids,") with information on un-reached
people groups, missionaries, and other valuable resources to
further mobilize pastors, youth, children and churches for
missions.
