True Love Waits . . .

Quem Ama Espera /Who Loves Waits (Literal translation into Portuguese from English)

Katie and a team of Mozambician youth are visiting the churches in Nampula province and teaching a                            Portuguese version of  True Love Waits (Quem Ama Espera). Marriage is not seen as important in the Makhuwa culture. Rather, people living together and having children with no strong commitment to the relationship is the norm. As part of what the team is teaching they are asking questions about the sexual activity in an area. Here are some of the questions and the average answers the team has received:

Q: Out of 100 people you know in your area, how many will wait until marriage to have sex?

A: 2 (many times they answer 0)

Q: Out of the guys and girls that aren’t waiting until marriage, at what age do they become sexually active?

A: guys – 11 girls – 8Q: How many sexual partners might there guys or girls have before they do get married?

A: guys – 100 or more girls - 50 or more

English Classes . . .

Many people in Mozambique want to learn to speak English in Nampula. There are around 130 students studying English using materials from the gospel of Mark. There are several missionaries  and Mozambiquans teaching these classes.

Discipleship Classes . . .

Katie is discipling 2 new believers Fatima and Natalia.

Natalia is learning everything about the Bible for the first time. Please pray for her as she grows in her faith. She and her husband are the only Christians in both of their Muslim families and are often pressured to compromise their faith. Pray that God would bless them as they stand firm on his promises and follow his ways!

Fatima just moved to Nampula and is so hungry for God’s word. Pray for her as she learns to share her faith with others at her school and pray for her as she adjust to a new town.

Many of the girls ask Katie to meet with them and help them study God’s word but they are unfaithful to attend after things begin.

Also please pray for the many volunteer groups that will be coming during the months of May-November of 2003.
