Katie Jackson
True Love Waits . . .
Quem Ama Espera /Who Loves Waits (Literal translation into Portuguese
from English)
Katie and a team of Mozambician youth are visiting the churches in
Nampula province and teaching a
Portuguese version of True Love
Waits (Quem Ama Espera). Marriage is not seen as important in the Makhuwa
culture. Rather, people living together and having children with no strong
commitment to the relationship is the norm. As part of what the team is
teaching they are asking questions about the sexual activity in an area.
Here are some of the questions and the average answers the team has
received:
Q: Out of 100 people you know in your area, how many will wait until
marriage to have sex?
A: 2 (many times they answer 0)
Q: Out of the guys and girls that aren’t waiting until marriage, at
what age do they become sexually active?
A: guys – 11 girls – 8Q: How many sexual partners might there guys or girls have before they
do get married?

A: guys – 100 or more girls - 50 or more
- Pray for the youth at Cosoro Church as Katie teaches QAE (Quem Ama
Espera) there during March and April 2003. Pray the youth would seek to
follow Christ in all areas of their lives & make sincere committmentss
to purity and faithfulness.
- Please pray for the Christians in Mozambique as they hear about God’s
standard of sexual purity before and faithfulness in marriage. Pray
that they would be salt and light in this dark place and that their
relationships would be in obedience to God.
- Pray that the ones who are already deep in sexual sins would accept
God’s forgiveness and accept the new start he wants to give them.
- Pray that the churches would take an active role in teaching God’s
plan for relationships and marriage.
- Pray for the hundreds of Mozambican youth who have already made the
commitment to turn and follow God’s plan to abstain from sex until
marriage.

-
Pray for our team of Mozambican youth who have made a stand for TLW
and for teaching others about this message. Pray that God would bless
them as they teach and that he would strengthen them to keep their
commitments.
-
Praise God for the hundreds of youth who have
made committments to sexual purity. Pray they would remain strong in
their commitmemts.
English Classes . . .
Many people in Mozambique want to learn to speak English in Nampula.
There are around 130 students studying English using materials from the
gospel of Mark. There are several missionaries and Mozambiquans
teaching these classes.
- Pray for the seekers bible study that started the second week of
March of this year.
- Pray for the 150 students studying english.
- Pray for the new english semester that begins in April.
- Please pray for the many non-Christian students who are studying
with us. Pray that the their eyes would be opened to the truth as they
read the living and active word of God.
- Praise God for Sergy, Nissilio, Gito, Betino who have accepted
Christ after hearing the gospel in class and studying the word with
their teachers. Please pray for them as they grow in their faith.
- Praise God for the students who are curious about the gospel. Pray
for them as they study the word with their teacher or in the seekers
Bible Study class. Pray that their hearts would be opened to receive
Christ as Lord and King.
- Praise God that he continues to provide Christians to teach the many
students who want to learn English. Please pray for his continued
provision of teachers and that we would have more students who can
become teachers.
- Praise God for the English students who served as translators when
we had volunteer teams come to Nampula this summer. They were a big
blessing. Pray for the non-Christians who were translating the gospel.
Pray that the word they were speaking with their mouth would transform
their lives!
- Praise God for Charles whol accepted Christ.
- Praise God for the many who are seeking and interested in the
gospel. Pray the Lord would call them each to himself and that
they would respond.
Discipleship Classes . . .
Katie is discipling 2 new believers Fatima and Natalia.
 |
Natalia is learning everything about the Bible for the first time.
Please pray for her as she grows in her faith. She and her husband are
the only Christians in both of their Muslim families and are often
pressured to compromise their faith. Pray that God would bless them as
they stand firm on his promises and follow his ways! |
Fatima just moved to Nampula and is so hungry for God’s word. Pray
for her as she learns to share her faith with others at her school and
pray for her as she adjust to a new town.
Many of the girls ask Katie to meet with them and help them study God’s
word but they are unfaithful to attend after things begin.
- Please pray that God would raise up godly young women in this
area.
- Pray that these girls would be committed.
- Pray that they would love God’s word and teach other young women
the things they have been taught.
- Please pray for the older women in the churches to teach these young
women how to walk daily with Christ.
Also please pray for the many volunteer groups that will be coming during
the months of May-November of 2003.
