Johnny grew up in Opp, which is located in south Alabama, and is best
known for its Rattlesnake Rodeo. He received a B.S. in
Christian Education from Southeastern Bible College, in
Birmingham, Alabama, in May 1982. It was there that he met
Donna.
Donna (Lawson) Maust is from Reeves, a small town in
southwest Louisiana where the local traffic is easily
controlled by a few stop signs. She received a BS in Nursing
from McNeese State University. Knowing that God had called
her into missions, she then attended Southeastern Bible
College where she received a B.S. in Bible/Missions in May
1983.
We were married in July 1983, and lived in Phenix City,
Alabama, where Johnny was Director of Christian Education in
a local church.
After two years, we followed God's leading to Tegucigalpa,
Honduras. Johnny became Spiritual Life Coordinator at
Academia Los Pinares, a bi-lingual Christian school, for 11
years. The school had about 600 students in kindergarten
through 12th grade. The student body is approximately 80%
Honduran, with the rest of the students being MK's, children
of businessmen, and diplomats. We ministered both to the
students and their families. John Mark, Andrew, and Hannah
were born during our years in Honduras.
We loved the ministry in Honduras, but the Lord called us to
New Orleans in 1996 for Johnny to attend seminary. While
there, he served as Minister of Youth at Elysian Fields
Baptist Church, which ministers to the inner-city. Donna
enjoyed discipling women and teaching a Sunday School class
of inner-city adults. For the next two years, God allowed us
to be part of what He is doing in the lives of the men,
women, and youth of inner-city New Orleans. It was a
challenging and rewarding opportunity.
In May 1998, Johnny received a MA from New Orleans Baptist
Theological Seminary. We were appointed by the International
Mission Board as career missionaries to Ecuador on September
15, 1998. We now serve on a team that is planting churches
in the Central Andes Mountains of Ecuador.
