I revealed Myself to those who did not ask for Me; I was found by those who did not seek Me. To a nation that did not call on My name, I said, "Here am I, here am I."
-Isaiah 65:1

Testimonies of Wolof

As God continues to work, some are becoming Believers.  Here are two testimonies.

Khady
Growing up as a child of a prominent Marabout (spiritual leader), Khady was strong in her beliefs.  She lead prayer meetings among her peers and helped teach the Koran.  But she also attended a kids club at the Baptist Mission in her town.  It was there that she first heard the message of Jesus Christ.  Khady would argue with the storytellers and tell them they were wrong, yet she continued to go and hear their stories.  The Lord used a dream to call Khady to himself, and though she knew the road ahead would be rough, she recognized the truth and had faith enough to believe.  Since that time, Khady has undergone persecution from her family and friends.  Her children were taken away, she was beaten and cast out of her community. Now she is forced to stay in the city where it is safe.  Her life is in danger if she tries to go back to see her family.
Even though Khady had no one to turn to, she continued to have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  She knew the truth, and was willing to endure the persecution that may come with it.  Because Khady is Wolof many doors have been open for her to share the gospel with others.  She has been taught to tell chronological Bible stories, and the Lord continues to give her opportunities to go into villages to tell His stories.  Khady’s life continues to be hard and she has not seen her children in over four years.  But her faith is strong and she knows the Lord is using her among her own people for His glory.
The persecution Khady has suffered and continues to suffer is not uncommon among Christians in West Africa.  Christianity is viewed as a Toubab’s (white person’s) religion and is associated with ungodly western practices.
Please begin praying for Khady and others like her.  Most of all, ask the Lord to develop a Wolof Christian Community.  New believers need the security of knowing there is a place they can go for support and help if their family turns them away.
Boubacar
Boubacar is a Pulaar Christian, but he also speaks Wolof.  Before he became a Christian he lived next to a missionary family.  Every Sunday evening for five years Boubacar would visit the family in their home and learn about the Bible.  It was there that he first heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Boubacar, son of an Islamic marabout or spiritual leader, began to pray to God for discernment.  He asked the Lord to show him which way was best.  His faith in God began to grow everyday, as he was able to see real love in the Bible.  The Koran teaches that works are what get you into Heaven.  Boubacar started to understand the concept of God’s grace and realize that the only work a Christian must do is to accept the gift of salvation through Jesus.  That is it!  So that is what Boubacar did.  He gave his life to Christ, but he has yet to tell his family.  Boubacar fears the break of his relationship with his father.  He believes that given time his father will become a Christian also.  He has already given his father an Arabic Bible, which he willingly accepted.
The Lord is already using Boubacar to help other missionaries communicate better with the Pulaar and Wolof people. Ask the Lord to encourage Boubacar and give him boldness to tell his father about Jesus Christ.  Pray that Boubacar will be protected as he takes the gospel to his people, and that they will have open hearts, being willing to receive the message of true salvation.
